How do GRP Covers perform against chemicals?
We understand that chemical attack is a genuine problem on Waste Water Treatment & Sewerage Treatment Plants and can cause significant damage to the plant and it’s equipment. In sludge and treatment tanks, the environment can be extremely unfavorable due to the presence of damp conditions and chemicals such as Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) which attack surrounding materials, both of these factors have a serious effect on steel and that is why we recommend the use of GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic). GRP Covers can offer a sustainable and durable solution to the traditional steel covers.
Why GRP Covers over steel covers?
Because Steel Covers have low durability they are largely at risk to corrosion due to the presence of chemicals and unfavorable conditions that are present in Sewage and Waste Water Treatment Plants, this means that they will require constant maintenance which will result in higher running costs for the plant. The conditions under the steel covers may cause the steel to rust which could lead to contamination. Steel Cover are also extremely heavy which makes the installation process difficult.
GRP Covers on the other hand are extremely durable and can handle corrosive/aggressive chemicals as well as unfavorable conditions. Because GRP is immensely durable there is very little to no need for maintenance, making GRP covers cost effective and remarkably sustainable. GRP Covers are also much lighter than steel covers making the installation process a lot easier.
